Worry Is A Liar

Hello Reader,

I hope you are doing well. In this week's episode, we began a brand new study on the book Winning the War on Worry by Louie Giglio. In chapter one, Louie teaches us about four of the lies worry loves to tell.

The Four Lies of Worry

  1. Something really bad is going to happen
  2. The more you worry about it, the better your odds of avoiding it.
  3. I have no choice-I’m a born worrier.
  4. I can control the outcome by worrying.

Spot the Lies and Start the Fight

As we learned in our last study, when we start anything new, it is bound to feel a bit awkward. As we begin to spot the lies, we might discover the process is harder than we thought. It will take time, but you must keep calling out the lies and replacing them with the truth of God's Word.

“The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.”
Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

‭‭Avoidance & Assurance

Worry spends a lot of time convincing you to avoid anything that causes you pain or discomfort. Louie teaches us that avoidance is not the desired outcome for believers. Instead, our goal should be assurance.

“Assurance is what turns a what if into an even if through the truth of what is. God is good. Loving. Kind. Mighty in power. Holy Healer. He is, and because of that truth, you can have assurance no matter what comes against you.”
-Louie Giglio

Reflection

  1. Which one of the four lies can you relate to most?
  2. Are there any negative thoughts that keep replaying in your mind? Take a minute and write them down.
  3. How can you invite your community into your struggle? How can they help you spot the lies worry is telling you?

When the Little Things Become Too Much

Hello Reader, We all experience days when we feel like we've hit an invisible wall—a day when the weight of a messy desk, a forgotten appointment, and a passive-aggressive email feels as overwhelming as a major life crisis. This phenomenon isn't random; it's the result of the compound effect. While we often wait for the 'big' disaster to take our brain health seriously, it's the quiet, overlooked 'little things'—the arguments we ignore, the rest we skip, and the self-criticism we accept—that...

3 Ways to Prevent a Major Meltdown

Hello Reader, Think of your life as an empty backpack. Every time you dismiss a conflict, ignore a disappointment, or absorb a moment of self-criticism, you toss a small, jagged stone into that pack. Individually, these stones are almost weightless. You don't even notice them. But week after week, month after month, you keep adding to them, and one morning, you try to lift the pack and realize you can't—the accumulated weight has become too much to bear. This week, we'll explore how these...

Why We Struggle to Define Our Pain

Hello Reader, What do you call the pain you can't name? I'm talking about the silent burden so many of us carry—a persistent heaviness that drains our spirit and leaves us searching for the right words. This distress often goes unacknowledged because it lacks a clear name, making us feel isolated and alone. I know this feeling well, and in my journey, I discovered that finding a voice for this silent struggle is the first step toward finding peace and healing. Let's dive in! Overflow is now...
